Cairo bourse opens stronger on blue chips

Cairo – Mubasher: EGX indices started Wednesday on a higher note backed a buying appetite for blue-chip stocks by national and foreign investors.

The main index EGX30 jumped 284 points or 2.55% to 11,443 points by 10:30am Cairo local time.

The small and mid-cap EGX70 moved higher 1.02% to 451.4 points.

The broader index EGX100 and the equal-weighted index EGX50 were higher 1.26% and 2.48%, respectively.

Nationals and foreigners were net buyers by EGP 2.5 million and EGP 18 million correspondingly, while Arabs were net sellers by 20.5 million.

By category, individuals were buyers by EGP 3.8 million and institutions were placed as net sellers.

Trading value reached EGP 302 million after 125 million shares were traded.

Market analyst Hoda El-Menshawi said the benchmark is likely to move upwardly if holding above 11,175 points today; otherwise, the jittery performance is likely to continue within the wide price channel extending from 3,375 points to 12,046 points.
