Cairo train station blaze official figures: 20 dead, 40 injured - Ministry

Cairo – Mubasher: The death toll for the fire that erupted in Cairo’s train station earlier on Wednesday has reached 20 in addition to 40 injured, health minister Hala Zayed said in a television broadcast.

Around 30 ambulances have transported the dead and injured to the Nasser Institute and Dar Al Shifa Hospital, the minister added, noting some of the injured were in critical condition and will require surgical intervention.

Those injured suffered various burn degrees, Zayed went on, stressing that hospitals were equipped and ready to take on the injuries.

Earlier on Wednesday, a fire erupted at Cairo's Ramsis Railway Station as a train arrived at the main station from the coastal city of Alexandria.

Local newspaper Shorouk had reported 24 deaths and 50 injuries and that the station entrance had been partially closed. 

No updates on the station’s closed entrance have been disclosed.
