Cairo – Mubasher: A decision on the prices of mobile recharge cards is expected to be reached today or tomorrow, deputy finance minister for tax policies, Amr Al Mounir, said Monday after private discussions over prices of prepaid recharge cards.
On the sidelines of the Euromoney Egypt Conference, Al Mounir suggested that the current prices of mobile recharge cards were exaggerated, and the final prices were yet to be determined.
The top official confirmed that the final pricing method for mobile top-up cards will keep consumers’ interest in mind after reaching a taxation agreement with mobile companies.
Taxes on mobile phones increased from 15% to 22%, of which 13% are a value-added tax (VAT).
