Cairo – Mubasher: China-based Geely plans to turn Egypt into a manufacturing base, and to export its production to neighboring countries, the company general manager Stephen Chow said.
The expansion plans are based on the manufacturing catalysts, Almal newspaper reported, citing Chow as saying.
The planned markets to export through Egypt are Europe, MENA region, and the North African countries, Chow added, noting that export is likely to start exporting to African nations by 2019.
Geely is working with its representative in Ghabbour Auto (GB Auto) to manufacture new models for the domestic market.
On 7 September, Egypt’s minister of trade and industry, Tarek Kabil said that the ministry aims to expand it automotive industry.
On 21 September, Kabil stated that investments of automotive industry in Egypt currently amounts to $3 billion.
