Chinese firm considers manufacturing EVs in Egypt – Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt aims to meet the local demand for electric cars in a bid to lessen reliance on imports, the country’s minister of trade and industry said.

China’s Dongfeng Motor Corporation is currently considering manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs) to be used as government means of transportation and taxis in Egypt, Amr Nassar added in a statement on Wednesday.

After increasing the local content, the Chinese automobile manufacturer plans to export some of EVs to European markets, he noted.

The electric vehicles to be manufactured by Dongfeng Motor Corporation will be easily charged at homes and public car parks, the minister revealed.
