Consortium wins contract to build 60 schools for SAR 86m

Riyadh – Mubasher: Tatweer Building Company (TBC) announced the preferred bidder for Wave 1 Schools PPP consisting of 60 public schools in Jeddah and Mecca of the Build, Maintain, and Transfer (BMT) track of the Public Private Partnership programme.

The consortium of Ajyad Knowledge for Education and Training and Al Bawani Company delivered the best financial offer at SAR 86 million (average annual equivalent price) for the 60 schools, according to a press release on Wednesday.

TBC said that Wave 1 of the PPP Program will finance, design, build, and facility manage 60 schools that can accommodate more than 50,000 students in the two cities.

The project’s construction phase is 3 years, to be followed by 20 years of maintenance provided by the private sector.

Moreover, TBC aims to complete construction of the first phase in Jeddah within two years and the second phase in Mecca within 3 years from the signing date.

The schools implemented through this programme will provide free educational services and the role of the private sector is limited to financing, constructing, and facility management.

“Wave 1 was chosen to be in the cities of Mecca and Jeddah due to the increasing need for educational facilities in the two cities, as well as the Ministry of Education's (MoE) effort to replace rented schools with enhanced educational environment schools in various regions of the kingdom,” the statement concluded.
