Cyprus Hydrocarbons mulls gas export to Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: The Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company (CHC) is working on exporting gas to Egypt, general manager Panos Kelamis told Cyprus Mail.

“We want to clinch an agreement [...] for 15 to 20 years that will offer Cyprus the maximum,” Kelamis added.

“We definitely want to go to Egypt, but we have certainly looked at the scenarios of a great discovery and the synergies that will exist,” he said, noting that negotiations are not easy because prices are currently low.

Egypt’s petroleum minister had previously revealed that 83 deals were signed in the petroleum sector after the 30 June 2013 revolution, including 61 deals over the past three years.

On 20 September, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company’s (EGAS) announced that it will launch a new global tender for oil and gas exploration in Egypt’s western Mediterranean.

On 13 September, the petroleum ministry said that Egypt’s gas output increased to 5.2 billion square feet per day from 4.46 billion square feet after entering the initial production phase of the fields of western Delta.

Egypt had imported 118 shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in FY16/17.
