Cairo – Mubasher: DEGAROUTE, the trademark of Essen-headquartered Evonik Industries, has been awarded a new key project in Egypt covering a total of 500 kilometers of Cairo-Sharm El Sheikh highway.
The first trial for this highway began in October 2018 in collaboration with Egypt-based formulator, Balsam, German chemicals group Evonik said in a statement.
“We started from scratch with educating Balsam on how to formulate cold plastic roadmaking using DEGAROUTE. At that stage, we were developing the interest of this new technology in the Egyptian market,” business manager for coating and adhesive resins at Evonik Egypt Ahmed Nousser said.
“We organised joint technical Lab training in Germany for Balsam in addition to providing technical support locally and supervising the production trial and the commercial production,” Nousser added.
For his part, Mohamed El Sayed, owner of Balsam, said that his company has succeeded in achieving their strategy with DEGAROUTE’s products through the provision of “quality and cost-effective road safety development”.
As per the project, both directions of Cairo-Sharm El Sheikh highway project has “two interrupted lines extruded via DEGAROUTE® 465 and two long edge lines sprayed with DEGAROUTE® 655 with a thickness of 2.5 mm on the extruded line and 600micron on the spray line,” the statement said.
Accordingly, the application occurs during nights and early mornings to avoid the heat and the exposure to the sun.
The project is set for completion next April, according to the statement.
It is worth noting that DEGAROUTE products are used across Egypt, including Cairo-Sharm El Sheikh, Ismailia-Port Said, and Cairo-Sokhna Highways.
