DEWA, Emirates NBD ink digital transformation deal

Dubai - Mubasher: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) signed on Sunday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Emirates NBD to promote cooperation in innovation and digital transformation.

The agreement aims at achieving the happiness of customers and society as a whole and comes in line with DEWA’s strategy to support innovation at all levels, according to a press release.

The MoU was signed by the managing director and CEO of DEWA, Saeed Al Tayer, and Hesham Al Qassim, the vice chairman and managing director of Emirates NBD Group, during GITEX Technology Week 2017.

According to DEWA’s statement, the MoU enhances collaboration in supporting innovation and implementing projects that promote innovation and improve services provided to customers. It also aims to exchange knowledge and expertise in digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

DEWA is working to keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, taking advantage of disruptive technologies, and supporting the Dubai 10X initiative, which sets the Government of Dubai on a mission to be a global leader that is 10 years ahead of other cities, Al Tayer stressed.

The director general of DEWA added that “the MoU with Emirates NBD is part of our strategy to collaborate with leading government and private organisations to promote and encourage innovation. The MoU encourages cooperation in developing disruptive technologies by exploring investment opportunities in technologies and new services and business models. It also aims to support start-ups in innovation, Internet of Things, and AI.”

Meanwhile, the vice chairman of Emirates NBD said that "the agreement is in line with efforts to support the UAE’s ambitions to be a regional and global leader in innovation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence.”

“At Emirates NBD, we reiterate our commitment to the vision of our wise leadership and our continuous efforts to make a significant contribution in achieving the government strategy to promote creativity, innovation, and future leadership,” added Al Qassim.
