DEWA, Siemens ink R&D, expertise exchange MoU

Dubai – Mubasher: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany-based engineering group Siemens to cooperate in Research and Development (R&D), along with exchanging expertise and knowledge.

The two parties will also collaborate in building national capacities in energy technologies, according to the UAE's state-run utility said in a statement.

Under the deal, DEWA and the German industrial conglomerate will pursue joint R&D activities in energy technologies including smart grids, the integration of renewable energy, in addition to distributed generation in the electricity grid, energy storage systems, the Internet of Things (IoT).

The potential projects will be materalised by using artificial intelligence (AI) in the energy production unit, 3D printing and additive manufacturing, robotics, cybersecurity, robotics, and smart buildings, as well as building national capacities in the energy sector.

“Signing the MoU with Siemens supports our strategic partnership which dates back over 30 years, especially technological solutions in energy production. The MoU supports DEWA’s commitment to adopting the latest technological innovations and benefiting from international best practices,” Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA, said.

The new deal will contribute to innovating analytical methodologies and improving tools to develop innovative solutions to increase energy efficiency and further promote renewable energy use.
