DEWA to invest AED 8bn in new substations

UAE – Mubasher: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) plans to build 68 new 132/11 kilovolt (kV) substations over the next three years, with total investments of AED 8 billion ($2.18 billion).

The new project came in line with DEWA’s commitment to developing infrastructure to meet the growing power demand in the Emirate of Dubai, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

"We are inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to plan and develop the infrastructure required, to meet increasing electricity and water demand in the Emirate," CEO of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said.

The authority is committed to enhancing the efficiency of electricity transmission networks and ensuring electricity services for all citizens, Al Tayer noted.

"Up until the end of last year, DEWA established a total of 258 substations of 132/11kV in 2018, 18 of which were commissioned in 2018 at a total cost of AED 2.05 billion. We will continue our efforts to support Dubai and the UAE, the top official revealed.
