Dubai – Mubasher: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced awarding a contract worth AED 288 million ($78.42 million) to build a water reservoir in Al Nakhali region of Dubai.
The new reservoir can hold up to 120 million gallons of desalinated water, DEWA revealed, noting that this addition to its network would raise the emirate of Dubai's overall storage capacity to 1.010 billion gallons of water.
"The project includes the construction of two rectangular, reinforced, concrete 60-million-gallon reservoirs," DEWA said in a statement.
DEWA managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said that the new reservoir are in line with the emirate's expansion strategy and will contribute to meet Dubai's growing demand for water.
Work is moving according to plan with the new reservoir's construction and operation slated for completion within 24 months, the authority noted.
The project "also enhances the efficiency and reliability of the water network and increases water flow to fulfil the increasing demand for water across all of Dubai,” Al Tayer added.
DEWA's water capacity is currently at 830 million gallons; this capacity will rise to the projected 1.010 billion once the Al Nakhali and Al Lusaily reservoirs come into operation. Al Lusaily would add 60 million water gallons to the grid.
