DFM extends fall as banks, real estate weigh Thursday

Dubai – Mubasher: The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) closed Thursday in the red, dragged lower by leading stocks in the real estate and banks sectors.

The general index fell 0.83% or 23.26 points and closed at 2,791.71 points.

Turnover fell to AED 128.70 million on Thursday from AED 288.045 million on Wednesday, while traded volume more than halved to 122.89 million shares versus 322.78 million shares in the previous session.

The real estate sector led losers, falling 1.79% on the back of four stocks, led by Arabtec and Emaar Properties which retreated 3.59% and 2.98%, respectively, while Emaar Malls tumbled 1.64% and Emaar Development decreased 1.54%.

Moreover, the banks sector shed 0.37% after Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) and Ajman Bank declined 0.56% and 3%, respectively.

On the positive side, the investment sector grew 0.30% backed by Dubai Investments’ 0.54% gain, while the consumer staples sector increased 0.52% after DXB Entertainments added 0.27%
