DFM retreats 44 pts at close Wednesday

Dubai – Mubasher: The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) closed Wednesday in the red after its main index retreated 43.72 points, or 1.23%, to 2,632.15 points, registering its sharpest daily loss since April, and hitting its lowest level since 21 January.

The DFM’s trading volume stood at 185.2 million shares, up from 142.18 million in the previous session, whereas traded value slumped to AED 172.79 million, from AED 232.84 million.

The real estate sector led losers, falling 3.12% as Union Properties' stock retreated 6.36%, followed by Arabtec Holding and Damac Properties stocks' with 4.3% each, and Emaar Properties decreased 3.06%.

The insurance sector declined 2.57% after Islamic Arab Insurance Co.’s “Salama” stock went down 5.47%, while Takaful Al Emarat Insurance Co’s stock lost 1.16%.

The services sector dropped 2.32% as Amanat Holdings’ stock decreased 3.54% to AED 1.09, while the transportation sector levelled down 1.44% after Gulf Navigation Holding’s stock fell 2.78%, reaching AED 1.05.

Moreover, the banks sector decreased 1.17% as Emirates NBD went down 2.17%, to AED 9, while the consumer staples sector inched down 0.3% after DXB Entertainments’ stock lost 0.35%, reaching AED 0.288.
