DP World, Algeria transport minister tackle development plans

Dubai – Mubasher: DP World’s top official has convened with the Algeria’s newly-appointed minister of public works and transport, Abdelghani Zalene, and discussed plans for the development of the port operator’s DP World Algiers.

“In the run-up to Algeria’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and in light of recent oil price fluctuations, diversification of the economy is a path that the government has embarked on in earnest,” said DP World Group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.

With two ports under its operation in Algeria, namely DP World Djazair and DP World Djen-Djen, the Dubai-based port operator has been a main contributor to Algeria’s economic development for almost a decade, according to a statement.

“In partnership with Algeria’s leadership, we’re looking at ways to increase efficiency and capacity at DP World Algiers as the economy grows. Investments in trade infrastructure, accompanied by state-of-the-art technologies like our Dubai Trade electronic port community system helps local businesses prosper and access global markets,” Bin Sulayem added.

“Algeria is rich in resources and people and improved trade infrastructure, transparency and technology coupled with policies that encourage inclusive growth will help unlock its economic potential,” the Dubai-based ports operator’s top official concluded.

DP’s global operations encompass 78 terminals in 40 countries as well as partnerships with governments around the world.
