Dubai-Mubasher: DP World Limited said it handled 61.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units(TEUs) across its global portfolio of container terminals in 2015, a 3% rise on reported basis and 2.4% on a like-for-like basis, according to a statement on Monday.
The container volumes growth is mainly attributed to European and UAE terminals. The portfolio benefited from the ramp-up in London Gateway and the UAE handled a record 15.6 million TEUs, representing like-for-like growth of 2.3% for 2015.
Utilisation at Jebel Ali remained high at approximately 90% despite the softer volumes in Q4-15.
DP World terminals handled 29.1 million TEU during 2015, a 2.7% increase on a reported basis, the statement said, adding that consolidated like-for-like volumes rose by 1.7% for the year.
“We look forward to the new capacity at Rotterdam, Mumbai, Prince Rupert and Yarimca to deliver a full year contribution to our throughput," said the group's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.
The third berth at London Gateway is expected to open in mid-2016, adding 600,000 TEUs of new capacity. In addition, two million TEUs at terminal three (T3) Jebel Ali will be operational in the second half of 2016.
