DP World to commence Berbera Port’s development

Dubai – Mubasher: DP World is set to commence the execution of its plan to develop Somalia’s Berbera Port to transform it into a regional trade hub.

The development project, which includes the building of 400-metre quay, in addition to the construction of the Port’s infrastructure and administrative buildings, will be awarded to a contractor, DP World’s CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem told Emarat Al Youm.

The global logistics company is keen on installing and utilising new machinery in the Port including lifts, the first group of which will be delivered later in 2018, bin Sulayem added.

In March, DP World signed an agreement with Somaliland Port Authority (SPA) for the development of the Port of Berbera under which the world's third-largest ports operator will hold a 51% stake in the project, while Somaliland and Ethiopia will hold 30% and 19%, respectively.
