Dabaa plant to provide $17bn annual income - El-Shafei

Cairo – Mubasher: The Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant will add a net revenue of $264 billion to Egypt’s general budget within 60 years, head of the Egyptian-Russian Institute for Culture and Sciences Hussein El-Shafei said in a phone call broadcast on Sada El Balad channel.

This project will achieve an annual income of about $17 billion to the general budget, El-Shafei added.

Egypt will sell electricity produced by the Dabaa plant in 2023, while the four nuclear reactors of the plant will be operated in 2029, he noted.

Egypt will start paying for the first instalment of the loan it will obtain to construct the plant in October 2029, he continued.

El-Shafei also mentioned that the cost of oil used to operate the nuclear reactors does not exceed 5%, compared to the cost of any other electric plant’s operation.
