Damietta Port seeks to secure $300m loan from EBRD

Cairo – Mubasher: Damietta Port Authority (DPA) is in talks with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to obtain a $300 million loan to fund a second container terminal in the port.

The second terminal will comprise 1670 metres (M) quay with a total depth of 17m and an 18m pathway, an official told Al Shorouk newspaper on Sunday

DPA is preparing for a tender to appoint a global operator to conduct operations in the new terminal, the source remarked.

The state-run port, in collaboration with the private sector, plans to establish a logistics hub with $80 million in investments to serve oil and gas fields in the Mediterranean Sea, in addition to a 300m quay.

The source unveiled that DPA is implementing an EGP 1.3 billion multi-purpose terminal through National Service Projects Organization (NSPO), affiliated to the Egyptian Armed Forces, with 630m quays.

The multi-purpose terminal project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018, the Egypt-based newspaper revealed.
