Dubai - Mubasher: Managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, announced on Monday launching a vital strategic project that helps to diversify energy resources as well as developing Hatta area.
DEWA said that it will build a hydroelectric power station in the mountains next to Al Hattawi dam to meet the area’s social, economic, and environmental development needs.
According to DEWA’s statement, the project is the first of its kind in the GCC area, and that it will produce 250 megawatts with a lifespan of between 60 to 80 years.
The efficiency of the power station will reach 90% with response to demand for energy within 90 seconds, the statement added.
The power station will work by making use of two reservoirs, the first is the lower reservoir, which is currently located in Al Hattawi Dam, at 400 metres above sea level, and with a capacity of 1,716 million gallons, said Al Tayer.
The second is the upper reservoir, which will be built in the shape of a lake and will be 700 metres above sea level, he indicated.
