Disney admits mulling Twitter purchase before BAMTech deal

Mubasher: Disney’s CEO Bob Iger revealed that the company considered acquiring a stake in Twitter prior to purchasing a majority stake in MLB Advanced Media’s subsidiary BAMTech.

Twitter was one of the proposed options for Disney to broaden its distribution business and deal directly with customers, Iger added at the Vanity Fair's New Establishment Summit in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

"We thought Twitter had global reach, a pretty interesting user interface, and a compelling way that we might be able to present and sell the content our company makes to the consumer," Iger said.

"But we decided, ultimately, not to go in that direction. And we ended up […] buying a platform called BAMTech," he continued.

The CEO noted that the American internet video provider BAMTech will help Disney to distribute its streaming services directly to consumer.
