Dubai – Mubasher: The Djiboutian government has set out insuperable conditions in its contract with DP World Group, chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem told Al Arabia.
Djibouti’s government repealed an article stipulating that the UAE’s group shall handle containers exclusively, bin Sulayem added, noting that the government requested to waive tax exemptions granted to the DP World.
The chairman stressed that the Djiboutian government also requested a modification of the contract’s term to 30 years from 50, although the group did not breach any of the contract’s articles.
The government wanted to refer any dispute to the national courts, which we do not trust, bin Sulayem revealed.
Earlier in February, Djibouti ended a contract with DP World to run its Doraleh Container Terminal.
“The termination of the contract would have no material financial impact on the company,” the company said in a statement.
The London Court of International Arbitration acquited DP World of all misconduct charges over a concession to operate the Doraleh terminal.
