Domestic tourism controls 30% of Abu Dhabi hotel traffic

Abu Dhabi – Decypha: Domestic tourism has shaped 30.4% of total hotel guests at the emirate of Abu Dhabi in January and February, recording 228,000 guests out of 750,000 guests.

In overseas tourism, China has topped the list as there were 62,000 Chinese guests compared to 45,000 clients in the same period last year, said a recent report from Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).

Abu Dhabi hotels occupancy in January and February was 76%, TCA Abu Dhabi said according to Alittihad.

India, which was the largest overseas arrivals in Abu Dhabi in 2016, comes second at 50,000 guests, followed by the UK at 38,000 guests, Saudi Arabia at 31,000 guests, US at 26,000 guests, Egypt at 23,000 guests, Philippines at 22,000 guests, Germany at 22,000 guests and then Jordan at 16,000 guests.

All the overseas markets have witnessed growth except for the Egyptian and Jordanian markets that declined by 4% and 5.8% respectively.

The highest occupancy rates recorded in two-star hotels, which recorded 86% in January and February, followed by one-star hotels whose occupancy rates were 81%, then three and four-star hotels that recorded 79% of occupancy then the five-star hotels at 72%.

Around 170 hotel establishments have hosted 749,650 guests in January and February, 40% more than the same period in 2016, with the TCA Abu Dhabi targeting 4.9 million guests in 2017.
