Dow Chemical to build $100m polymer facility in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh – Mubasher: Dow Chemical Company has uncovered plans to establish a facility in Saudi Arabia at total investments exceeding $100 million, Construction Week Online reported.

Through the new plant, the US-based chemicals company aims to acrylic-based produce polymers for industrial and architectural coatings and water-treatment and detergent applications.

The facility located in Jubail’s PlasChem Park will provide about 1,000 job opportunities during peak construction, about 100 full-time jobs in operations, and around 350 jobs after finishing the complex.

“The proposed silicones investment will include constructing a fully-integrated, world-scale siloxanes and high-performance silicones complex geared towards markets and industries”, Construction Week Online reported, citing Dow’s chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris as saying.

The investment will help industries such as home and personal care, automotive, high-performance building and construction, solar energy, medical devices, and oil and gas, the top official added.

US-based Dow Chemical currently has a coatings plant in the UAE’s Jebel Ali in Dubai. The new facility will complement the UAE one and boost the company’s production in the Middle East.
