Dubai-Mubasher: Dubai-based telecom operator du said that royalty rates or taxes imposed by the government are likely to remain unchanged in 2017, the operator’s Chairman Ahmad bin Byat said on Tuesday.

On the sidelines of a conference in Dubai, he added that du is awaiting further instructions, but doesn't expect royalty rates to change in 2017.

In December 2011, the federal government adopted a new mechanism for imposing royalty rates or taxes on telcos to guarantee equality between operators.

The UAE’s finance ministry previously set out a five-year timetable for du's royalty – or tax – rates for 2012 to 2016, which requires 15% on revenues and 30% on profits.
