Dubai Airport passenger traffic grows 9% in April

Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai International Airport recorded passenger traffic growth of 9.2% to 7.6 million passengers in April, compared to 6.97 million passengers in the same period of the previous year, data released by the airport showed.

Year-to-date passenger traffic reached 30.1 million travellers compared to 27.9 million in the same period last year, registering a rise by 7.8%, the data released on Monday indicated.

Figures also showed that the number of flights increased in April by 1% year-on-year to 35,280 flights from 34,940, while passengers per flight rose 7.1% to 225 from 210.

South America topped the list in terms of traffic headed to and coming from the Dubai International Airport with 38.9%, followed by Eastern Europe with 33.9% and Asia with 18.9%, according to the statement.

The Indian subcontinent outperformed all regions in terms of number of passengers, with more than 1.69 million passengers, while Western Europe came in second with around 1.68 million, and GCC countries came in third with 1.3 million passengers.

Meanwhile, in terms of cargo, the Dubai International Airport handled 217,881 tonnes of freight in April, up 1.9% from figures reported in the corresponding period of 2016.
