Dubai – Mubasher: The Dubai Arena, which is set to be the largest all-purpose, air-conditioned indoor arena in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), is on track to open its doors in 2019.
The arena's active-lit façade and paneled structure have now been completed and installed, Meraas said on Sunday, adding that external infrastructure and landscaping works were underway.
“We are confident that Dubai Arena will position the city on the international entertainment touring circuit and the audiences will have the opportunity to witness the world’s most talented performers and sporting events in the heart of Dubai," commented Meraas Group chairman Abdulla Al Habbai.
The company is making the finishing touches to the first of 46 hospitality suites, it said, noting that the Dubai Arena, which is the "first-of-its-kind in the region," will have a water-tight roof that will be completed by the end of 2018. After this roof is finished, final acoustic checks will be conducted.
Moreover, all concrete, structural, and block works have been completed, while the installation of the arena's seating is a work in progress, Meraas noted.
"Dubai Arena will also ensure Meraas and its partners are in a strong position to be able to continue setting new benchmarks in leisure and entertainment regionally, while contributing to the emirate’s continued development as a major tourism destination and boosting the city’s appeal as a place to live, work and visit among residents and tourists,” Habbai stated.
The arena located at Dubai's City Walk can house up to 17,000 visitors and a variety of events such as end-stage, central and half-stage concerts, sporting events, gala dinners, exhibitions and conferences, and festivals, Meraas concluded.
