Dubai Chamber members' exports, re-exports to West Africa hit $387m in 5M

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai Chamber member companies' exports and re-exports to West Africa hiked by 42% in the first five months of 2021 to $387 million, driven by a recovery in trade activities.

This data was mentioned in an analysis released by Dubai Chamber as it prepares to convene the 6th Global Business Forum Africa in Dubai in October, in cooperation with Expo 2020 Dubai, according to a press release on Tuesday.

The Chamber recorded 3,201 issued certificates of origin for West Africa-bound shipments between January and May 2021, up 20% year-on-year (YoY) with a value of $387 million.

Nigeria topped the West African export market for member companies, representing 32% of the value of exports and re-exports to the region, followed by Ghana with 17%, Ivory Coast and Guinea with 12% each, and Senegal with 8%.

As for the product categories, plastics accounted for 31% of exports, followed by electrical machinery/electronics with 14%, machinery/mechanical appliances with 13%, and aluminium with 6%.
