Dubai International Airport sees 9m passengers in August

Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai International Airport has achieved a fresh world record in August for the second time in a row after receiving around 8.37 million passengers, compared to 8.23 million in the same month a year earlier.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) “records the busiest month ever in August 2018, setting a new record with 8.37 million customers, surpassing the airport’s former record of 8.23 million set in August 2017,” DXB media office said on Twitter.

In 2018, the average monthly traffic  is 7.5 million, or 1.2 million more than its closest rival London Heathrow, DXB, the primary international airport serving Dubai, noted.

"We are making progress on that front as well with shorter queue times, world-leading F&B and retail and other touches like spas, swimming pools and trampolines that help us stand out from the crowd."  Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports CEO, commented.

Despite the increase in traffic, queue times fell 44% in August, compared to the same period of the prior year.

Moreover, the number of bags rose 5.9% to 7.5 million, passed through the airport’s intricate 175 km long baggage system over the month.

India remained DXB’s top destination by customer volumes with a total number of travelers of 1.012 million, while Saudi Arabic ranked the second with 613,618 passengers.
