UAE - Mubasher: The number of the members of Dubai Startup Hub, an initiative of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, hiked by 236% to 1,568 in the first half (H1) of 2020 from 466 in H1-19.
The rise in the number of members is driven by the growing digital transformation that led many startups in Dubai and abroad to benefit from emerging market opportunities and provide the emirate with new solutions, according to a press release on Sunday.
On a monthly basis, Dubai Startup Hub saw a 13% increase in membership.
UAE nationals have represented a quarter of all Dubai Startup Hub's beneficiaries totalling more than 8,200 in H1-2020.
On a global level, the Hub has collaborated with over 70 business incubators across the world during the first and second quarters of 2020, including India, the US, the UK, Russia, Hungary, Germany, and China.
Dubai Startup Hub has attracted new startups across various sectors, including fintech, healthtech, education, e-commerce, sustainability, wellness, and supply chain.
The President and CEO of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hamad Buamim, said that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has provided new market opportunities to technology startups that benefitted from programmes and initiatives launched under Dubai Startup Hub.
