Dubai among world’s top five cities in using technology - Report

Dubai — Mubasher: Dubai is among the world’s top five cities in terms of offering a positive experience for its residents by using smart technology, according to the latest Smart Cities Index.

The top five cities comprise of Singapore, London, New York, Dubai, Seoul, and Barcelona, Arabian Business reported on Sunday, citing the report – which took into account the use of technology in mobility, healthcare, public safety and productivity.

“Smart cities is the future of the world, and in the last few years there has been significant technological advancements which has changed the face of most countries around the globe,” Dawood Al Shezawi, the president of Strategic Marketing and Exhibitions, said.

Around 68% of the world’s total population is expected to live in cities by 2050, compared to the current 55%, according to the United Nations. Smart city technology can help cities content with the estimated influx of 2.5 billion additional people.

“From robotics to Internet of Things and blockchain, cities using disruptive technologies to ensure a more convenient life for citizens and this will accelerate the growth further in years to come,” Al Shezawi added.
