Dubai gears up for arrival of revamped 50-strong rail fleet

Dubai-Mubasher: Dubai’s Roads and Transition Authority (RTA) announced completing the refurbishment of a 50-strong fleet, after it successfully underwent a trail run in Poland.

The first line of the revamped rail fleet is expected to arrive in Dubai in November, said Emirati local news outlets.

Dubai’s state-run utility did not set a date for when the trains will enter the passenger service.

The national railway modernisation plan comes as part of the country’s preparations for the Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Fifteen trains are projected to run on the Expo 2020 railway line, while the remanding trains will be added to the existing railway network.

Much of the trial operation was pinned on improving the functionality of the trains and ensuring that they meet the optimal safety standards.

Upon having them on track, the overall number of the trains already in service will rise to 700, local media reported.

The RTA gave no further details on the cost of developing its train fleet.
