Dubai inflation falls in November

Dubai – Mubasher: The consumer price index (CPI), the inflation indicator, for the emirate of Dubai declined 0.4% in November compared to the prior month.

The month-on-month fall came on the back of lower transport prices by 1.83% as well as a 0.94% decline in the food and beverages segment, according to data released by the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC).

Housing, water and electricity, and fuel and gas prices were down by 0.3% in November from a month earlier, while the furniture and home appliances and maintenance segment decreased 0.12%.

In October, the UAE began implementing the excise tax, which the Ministry of Finance has forecast could bring in around AED 7 billion in annual revenues.

The UAE is set to begin imposing the value-added tax (VAT) starting January 2018, which is projected to increase prices by around 2% and attract AED 15 billion in revenues per annum.
