Mubasher: Dubai has commenced the installation of the ‘Smart Fare Gates’ at metro stations of Route 2020 project, the rail agency of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced.
The gates are characterised by accuracy, efficiency, and speed in reading details of Nol Cards, as well as picking up vital indicators; these features are found thanks to high-definition cameras fitted with 3D-Sensor Technology installed by the UAE authority in collaboration with several specialist firms.
Nol Cards are electronic ticketing cards released for all mode of public transport in Dubai services in August 2009.
It is noteworthy that ‘smart fare gates’ are designed for people who don't have time to run their fare cards through the usual slot and machines.
CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younes commented, “These gates boast of an innovative design to enhance the interaction with users through LED technology to detect the direction of entry and exit movement.”
He added, “The 3D-sensor technology will boost the safety and security of passengers and prevent crashing into gates, especially by toddlers and wheelchairs of people of determination and pregnant ladies. These gates will automatically open in case of emergencies or fire.”
The installation of the smart gates at Route 2020’s metro stations coincides with the first three strategic goals of the emirate’s RTA; Smart Dubai, Integrated Dubai, and People Happiness, according to the official press release.
The CEO noted that “RTA is always keen to pioneer in using the latest of technologies and relevant support services concerning public transport to enhance the happiness of commuters, residents and visitors coming to Dubai globally.”
