Dubai maintains 5th position globally in International Shipping Centre Development Index

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai has been placed in the fifth position globally and the first among the Arab countries in the International Shipping Centre Development (ISCD) index for 2021.

The ranking reflects Dubai's position as a global hub for maritime shipping and logistics, as shown by a report that was recently issued by Baltic Exchange and Xinhua, a London-based international news agency affiliated with the China Economic Information Service (CEIS).

For the fourth year in a row, the emirate has ranked fifth among 20 international centers for maritime commercial shipping, ahead of Rotterdam, Hamburg, Athens, and New York.

The ISCD index report referred that Singapore, London, Shanghai, and Hong Kong are the top four centres for global freight.

The Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority, Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, commented that the index focused on three primary indicators to evaluate 43 cities, comprising port infrastructure, shipping services, and general environment.

The index is also based on 16 secondary indicators, including the rate of transporting dry and liquid cargo, the number of cranes, the capacity of containers and the port draughts.
