Dubai police recover $82,000 diamond in India in 20hrs

Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai Police recovered a stolen 3.27-carat diamond worth AED 300,000 ($82,000) in India.

The diamond was found within 20 hours after the store owner reported the theft.

The precious stone was stolen by an Asian couple from a jewelry shop in the Naif area, near Deira, Dubai Police reported.

The police alerted the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) and Indian authorities to arrest the couple and bring them back to the GCC emirate.

"The couple was identified in a short time and arrested in the transit area in India as they were trying to smuggle the diamond to their home country," major-general Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said.

This is considered an achievement for Dubai Police affirming that the emirate is a safe and secure city.

“Our strategy is to cut crime rate and quick response to emergencies," Al Marri added.
