Dubai’s Careem unveils major cyber-attack; 14 million users data hacked

Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai-based ride-hailing app Careem has unveiled it was a victim of a major cyber-attack in January where hackers gained access to data of around 14 million.

The Emirati ride-hailing firm had found out about the breach on 14 January, as customer and driver account data were hacked, Careem said in a statement.

The app users’ names, email addresses, phone numbers, and trip data were stolen, the company added.

The company further noted that there was no evidence that any customer passwords or credit card numbers have been stolen.

Careem’s platform had about 14 million customers and 558,000 drivers across 78 cities in the region when the cyber breach occurred, according to the company’s spokesperson.

Users registered on the app after this major attack were not affected, Careem indicated.
