Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai-based Nakheel Properties has signed a contract worth AED 385 million with Spain’s RIU Hotels and Resorts to construct 800 rooms of their joint venture beachfront resort and water park at Deira Islands in Dubai.
The resort, which is set to be delivered in 2019, will be established by Bin Ladin Contracting Group LLC Dubai at a total value of AED 670 million, Nakheel added in a statement on Wednesday.
This joint venture is one of Nakheel’s AED5 billion hospitality expansion programme, upon which around 6,000 new rooms and hotel apartments will be delivered across Dubai, in line with the Government of Dubai’s tourism vision.
Given that Bin Ladin Group was chosen from a shortlist of 10 contractors who bid for the project, according to the statement.
The Emirati real estate developer has awarded about AED 8 billion of infrastructure and construction expandable contracts at Deira Islands, the company noted.
As per the agreement, Nakheel and RIU Hotels and Resorts will deliver a new concept of hospitality for Dubai by offering mid-scale, family-orientated, all-inclusive beachfront accommodation.
RIU’s first resort in the Middle East will be one of Dubai’s leading hospitality facilities in terms of hotel rooms’ number.
Nakheel Chairman Ali Rashid Lootah commented: “Today marks a key milestone for the Nakheel Hospitality, Deira Islands and Dubai,”
“The RIU resort at Deira Islands is a shining example of our commitment to delivering a diverse range of tourism-related projects that will help the government achieve its 2020 tourism targets, and I look forward to seeing this exciting resort come to fruition,” Lootah continued.
It is worth mentioning that RIU Hotels and Resorts has almost 100 hotels, with around 45,000 rooms between them, in 19 countries.
Nakheel’s Deira Islands coastal city spanning 15.3 square kilometres on a prime beachfront features seven food and beverage outlets, three swimming pools, a fitness complex, children’s club and Water Park.
