Dubai – Mubasher: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has partnered with Careem to introduce a bike rental service in the emirate, TimeOut Dubai reported.
The two parties have cooperated to bring 3,500 new bikes to Dubai in an effort to prop up the city-wide fitness goals like the Dubai Fitness Challenge and slash future traffic congestion.
To this end, the state-run transport utility, which did not set a date for launching the new service, will develop 350 dedicated bike stations across the city.
The bikes will be tracked via global positioning system (GPS) and will be connected to a wireless network by using the cutting-edge technology of the Dubai-based ride-hailing firm, according to the news portal.
The cyclists will be able to pay for this service through S’hail smartphone app, NOL card, and credit card.
This project follows a raft of brilliant investments announced by Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.
“This comes off the back of a range of announcements, including new promenades across DWTC, Jumeirah and more encouraging cycle paths and opportunities for cyclists to get on two wheels across the city,” TimeOut said.
