Dubai’s RTA to build two truck stops

Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced signing an agreement with Emirates Desert Group for constructing two truck stops at Dubai Industrial City.

Set to be built under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme, the first rest stop will be near Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, while the second is to be located at Dubailand, Dubai’s state-run utility noted.

The agreement was signed on Sunday, 29 September by Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, and chairman of Emirates Desert Group Mattar Al Mazroui.

Spanning an area of 5,000 hectares each, the rest stop can accommodate 100 trucks and provides service amenities in a bid to meet the needs of both trucks and drivers including a technical testing centre.

The new facilities aims at slashing parking trucks on highways and in residential areas, alongside meeting the mounting demand for the service, Al Tayer said.

The project’s cost and timetable weren’t disclosed.

“The project generates additional financial income source for RTA through sharing proceeds with the investor and at the same time avail the investor a chance to diversify its investment projects portfolio,” added Al Tayer.

For his part, Al Mazroui said the fresh stops would be environment-friendly, meet the local market’s needs, and contribute to the improvement of land projects.
