Dubai’s electronics trade reach AED135bn in H1-17

Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: Dubai’s information technology trade in the first half of 2017 amounted to AED 134.5 billion, according to the CEO and chairman of DP World Group.

This included AED 86.8b of imports, and AED 47.7b of exports and re-exports, said Sultan bin Sulayem, who is also the chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), in a statement on Saturday.

Bin Sulayem also indicated that PCFC supports Dubai external trade through the integration of its entities and the adoption of the most advanced applications and services. These include Mirsal 2, the electronic declaration system which was integrated into Dubai Trade’s unified portal and the Smart Risk Engine which reveals suspected goods and counterfeit products, as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM).

China topped the list of Dubai trade partners with AED 53.3 billion in imports, followed by Vietnam with AED 14.4 billion, the US with AED 2.3 billion, South Korea AED2.14 billion, and Japan AED 1.64 billion.

On the other hand, Saudi Arabia topped the list for exports and re-exports hitting AED 9.5 billion, followed by Iraq with AED 3.1 billion, Kuwait AED 2.7 billion, Egypt AED 2.22 billion, and the US with AED 1.4 billion.

The value of Dubai trade in mobile phones reached AED 75.9 billion, laptops totalled AED 11 billion, and desktops amounted to AED 2.3 billion.

WAM added that the chairman of PCFC expected more momentum and huge growth in the information technology sectors in the few coming years taken into account the big projects Dubai embarking on in preparation for the next Dubai Expo 2020.
