Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.69% year-on-year in January 2018, according to a report released by Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC).
The introduction of the value-added tax (VAT) along with the increase in fuel prices contribute to the 0.44% month-on-month increase in the Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels segment in the first month of the year following a declining trend began in April 2017, the DSC's report found.
The prices of tobacco; restaurants and hotels; communication; and recreation and culture surged 9.06%, 7.69%, 5.91%, and 5.12% month-on-month, respectively, in January, the DSC revealed.
In January, the prices of food and beverages; transportation; education; and health went up 3.41%, 2.73%, 1.01%, and 0.23%, respectively, compared to their prices in December 2017, the Dubai-based authority concluded.
