Dubai’s non-oil trade with Latin America hits AED 17bn in 2015

Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai’s non-oil trade with Latin America reached AED 17 billion ($4.63 billion) in 2015, according to a study conducted by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

The value of non-oil trade between both countries rose by 26% when compared with the AED 13.5 billion ($3.67 billion) traded in 2010.

There was a continued growth in trade until 2018, backed by growing demand in Dubai and the UAE, on the one hand, and Latin America, on the other.

Brazil tops the list of Dubai’s trade partners in Latin America as the non-oil trade between the two parties accounted for 67% of the emirate’s total exports and imports from the region, and included food products and major commodities.

Mexico was the Dubai’s second largest non-oil trade partner, with the emirate’s mobile device imports alone reaching approximately AED 1.3 billion, while the total value of imports of Mexican gold reached AED 381 million.

Dubai’s re-exports to Mexico of parts for use with lifting and moving machinery reached AED 53 million in value, while re-exports of electric generating sets and rotary converters to Brazil stood at AED 50 million.

Chile ranked as Dubai’s second-largest export market in Latin America – after Brazil – with a 13% share of trade volume. However, the country was not a major exporter to the emirate.
