Dubai sees 6% higher energy demand in H1-22

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai recorded a 6.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase in energy demand to 23,096 GWh during the first half (H1) of 2022, compared to 21,729 GWh.

Higher energy demand in Dubai reflects the economic recovery and return of key activities, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, announced.

Meanwhile, the emirate has benefited from the fourth industrial revolution technologies and implemented precautionary measures to ensure business continuity.

DEWA’s capacity has reached 14,117 megawatts (MW) of electricity and 490 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of desalinated water.

Al Tayer added: "DEWA’s growth plans align with Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan, Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and Dubai’s Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050."
