Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai Municipality on Monday launched a waste-to-energy plant at a total cost of AED 2.5 billion, Al Khaleej newspaper reported, citing the municipality’s general director Hussain Nasser Lootah.
This project aims at diverting 100% of waste from landfills by 2030, which will save 75% of Dubai’s total energy of renewable resources by 2050, as well as diminishing carbon dioxide emissions in Dubai, Lootah indicated.
Dubai Municipality previously announced that it would build the world’s largest waste-to-energy project in Al Warsan area.
The 185-megawatt plant will treat approximately 1.8-million tonnes of solid waste a year and provide about 120,000 houses in Dubai with clean sustainable energy.
The project is projected to save 2% of Dubai’s annual electricity consumption, and construction and engineering work of the plant is scheduled to be completed by early 2020.
