Dubai to see 1st palm tree timber plant

Dubai – Mubasher: Steel Wood Industries has announced plans to establish the first of its kind plant for producing high-quality timber from the palm trees and building product wastes.

The company, which will launch its plant at Dubai's National Industries Park (NIP), said that through this investment, it was looking to reduce the UAE’s imports of timber, which reached 1.25 million cubic metres in 2015 and cost AED 1.6 billion, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The new plant will contribute to the emirate of Dubai’s ambitious energy plans, said Steel Wood Industries’ managing partner Ghassan Afiouni.

Dubai’s energy strategy involves the reduction of energy consumption by 30% by 2030, while the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 aims to transform the emirate into a global centre for clean energy and a green economy.
