Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and Abu Dhabi Ports have launched a new container freight station at Khalifa Port.
The new station will slash trucking of EGA’s aluminium within Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) by over 290,000 kilometres per year, in addition to reducing costs and environmental emissions, EGA said in a statement.
“We are always looking for ways to improve our efficiency, saving costs and protecting the environment,” Abdulla Kalban, EGA’s managing director and CEO, said.
The fresh station will be used to load metal into containers for transfer onto ships for export, the UAE's largest industrial company outside oil and gas noted, giving no further details on the cost of the project.
EGA, which is one of the world's top five producers, highlighted that the new container freight station “has been purpose-built by Abu Dhabi Ports close to EGA's Al Taweelah site to reduce the trucking distance for each consignment by approximately 17kilometres.”
Opening this facility is in line with the UAE’s green economy strategy to enhance the country’s sustainable development, EGA said.
Commenting on the launching of the new station, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi said: “We are making every effort to enhance logistics efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by reducing the distance of trucks transporting aluminium from Emirates International Aluminium to the quayside, which adds value both commercially and environmentally.”
