EGX closes on positive note, equities up EGP 2.6bn

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed on positive note on Sunday on buying activity by institutions.

The benchmark index EGX30 added 1.29% or 104.7 points to close at 8,241.16 points, while the small and medium caps index EGX70 inched up 0.02% to 356.69 points.

The broader index EGX10 added 1.68% to close at 819.6 points.

The foreign and Arab investors were net buyers with EGP 30.9 million and EGP 2.06 million respectively, while local investors were net sellers with EGP 33 million.

The stocks of the heavy weighted CIB SURGED 2.55% to EGP 49.3, with trading value of EGP 38.03 million.

The market capitalization gained EGP 2.6 billion reaching EGP 414.7 billion.

The market witnessed 98.4 million shares changed hands worth EGP 404.6 million.

Out of 160 stocks traded today, advancers outnumbered decliners by 72 to 39, while 49 stocks remained unchanged.

The session saw Oriental Weavers, Eastern Tobacco and Egyptian Kuwait Holding gain the most, rising 9.9%, 7.0% and 4.6% respectively. The worst performing stocks were Credit Agricole, Juhayna and Ezz Steel, declining 2.7%, 1.8% and 1.5% respectively.
