EGX ends Thursday in red; market cap sheds EGP 13bn

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed Thursday’s trading session in red territory, dragged down by local and Arab selling.

The benchmark EGX30 index dropped 305 points, or 1.75%, finishing the session at 17,155 points.

The small- and medium-caps EGX70 index slid 0.94% to 853.53 points and the broader EGX100 index tumbled 1.32% to 2,195 points.

The equal-weighted EGX50 index shed 0.98% to 2,930 points.

Trading volume amounted to around 316.2 million shares exchanged through 30,110 transactions with a turnover of EGP 1.4 billion.

Foreign investors were net buyers with EGP 20.2 million, while Egyptian and foreign investors were net sellers with EGP 7.2 million and EGP 13.06 million, respectively.

The heavyweight Commercial International Bank (CIB) fell 3.32% to EGP 87.3, with a turnover of EGP 102.07 million.

Market capitalisation lost EGP 13 billion and closed the session at EGP 962 billion.
