EGX ends Thursday mixed; market cap sheds EGP 5.7bn

Cairo – Mubasher: the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed Thursday’s trading session, the first session of the Islamic holy month of Ramdan, on a mixed note.

The benchmark EGX30 index fell 115.55 points, or 0.68%, finishing the session at 16,877.66 points.

The heavyweight Commercial International Bank (CIB) slid 0.27% to EGP 87.08, with a turnover of EGP 63.7 million.

Market capitalisation lost EGP 5.7 billion and closed the session at EGP 948.39 billion.

The small- and mid-cap index EGX70 added 0.45% to 852.35 points, while the broader EGX100 index edged up 0.13% to 2,181.45 points.

The equal-weighted EGX50 index slipped 0.47% to 2,899.05 points.

Trading volume reached nearly 116.5 million shares exchanged at a turnover of EGP 869.4 million through 15,600 transactions.

Egyptian and Arab investors were net buyers with EGP 24.2 million and EGP 59 million, respectively, while foreign investors were net sellers with EGP 83.2 million.
